Period Poverty Awareness Week 2024 Candid Conversation
Each year, Period Poverty Awareness Week (PPAW), created by the Alliance for Period Supplies, spotlights the negative impacts of period poverty. In 2024, it began on May 20th and concluded on Menstrual Hygiene Day, the 28th.
Georgia STOMP recognized PPAW by hosting a Candid Conversation on Monday, May 20. Developed in 2020 by the Junior League of Douglas County (JLDC) Past President, Dominique Holloman, and JLDC member, Dr. Heather Scott, Candid Conversations are now Georgia STOMP’s signature program for educating about the need for menstrual equity in public spaces.
This year’s conversation was the first event hosted by Georgia STOMP which was led by our new Candid Conversation Coordinator, Areeba Hashmi. Areeba added a virtual feature using the app Menti, making the discussion even more interactive. The conversation was lively, very participatory and evoked the full range of emotions, mostly laughter, even as attendees shared sad or embarrassing memories.
If your organization is interested in hosting a Candid Conversation, reach out to Areeba, soon!
